Dr. Seth Shostak, senior astronomer for the SETI Institute, is scheduled to give a free public lecture tackling the topic "When Will We Find ET?" at 8 p.m. Monday in the College of Southern Nevada Planetarium on the Cheyenne campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave. SETI is an acronym for Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. The planetarium's fall show schedule includes "Secret of the Cardboard Rocket" at 3:30 p.m. Saturdays and "Ancient Skies-Ancient Prophecies" at 6 and 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 17. "Women of Da Blues," a Music on the Mountain show, is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort, 6725 Lee Canyon Road on Mount Charleston. Gates open at 10 a.m. Acts are scheduled to include Janiva Magness, the Cheryl Justice Band, and The Mixx featuring Mary Ball and Kelly "Madame Buttons" Sheehan with friends. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for military personnel with a valid ID, $5 for children 12 or younger and free for children 4 or younger. Parking is free. First Friday returns from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday to the 18b Arts District downtown. The event is set to feature interactive concert performances of the musical "Hair" featuring talent from the Strip and Broadway at 6 and 9 p.m. on the 3rd Street Stage. The free Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS productions are to be followed by a retro party performance at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel, 4455 Paradise Road. The event is set to include face painting, a magic show, a balloon artist, country singing, an Old West show and food and beverage vendors. The program, featuring the 22-voice Musical Arts singers and instrumental ensemble, under the direction of Douglas R. Peterson, is set to bring to life more than 200 years of presidential campaign music. John Hanks is to provide historical narration containing anecdotes about America's political parties and the candidates for the presidency. Keyboard accompaniment will be provided by Eric Eichorst. The Musical Singers ensemble has performed "Songs of Our Politics" every four years prior to each presidential election season since 1992. Roger Wilhelm, composer of "Songs of Our Politics," is a former music director of Madrigal, a vocal ensemble of the Rochester Oratorio Society.
