The Lord of the Rings In Concert: The Fellowship of the Ring is scheduled for 8 p.m. Oct. 14 at The Orleans Arena, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave. The event features Howard Shore's complete score, performed live on stage by more than 200 musicians. Ludwig Wicki is scheduled to conduct the performance, and soprano Kaitlyn Lusk is set to solo. Peter Jackson's complete film will be projected on a 60-foot screen during the concert. First Friday expansion under way

With Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh, executive Fred Mossier, downtown developer Andrew Donner and Joey Vanas taking over First Friday, plans for expansion are under way.

New features include a shuttle system, expanded parking downtown and the addition of music and street-style art on Fremont Street East.

The main Las Vegas Arts District area will include two stages of entertainment and works from local emerging artists on display from 6 p.m. until midnight.

Galleries participating include:

Brett Wesley Gallery, 1112 S. Casino Center Blvd., which will feature its newest exhibition, "Pop Stories" by Giovanni Morales. Visitors will have a chance to meet Morales from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Funkhouse, 1228 S. Casino Center Blvd., will showcase its newest exhibit, "The Letter P," with works from Boulder City native Daniel Pearson. His eclectic works are set to be on display Friday to Nov. 25.

Blackbird Studios, 1551 S. Commerce St., Suite A, is set to debut its "Zombie Apocalypse" and "Nevada Day" exhibitions. The zombie exhibition features works from locals in the zombies' and survivors' perspectives inspired by a zombie apocalypse. The Nevada Day exhibition includes work that reflects artists' time spent in the state.

Free museum day

The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, 3800 Las Vegas Blvd. South, is offering free admission to visitors from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday as part of the Smithsonian Magazine's annual Museum Day. Patrons can view works from "A Sense of Place: Landscapes from Monet to Hockney" with a free ticket printed from bellagio.com/bgfa. Tickets are limited to two per household.
