FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATIONS
The 18th annual Summerlin Patriotic Parade, Southern Nevada’s largest Independence Day celebration, is set to start at 9 a.m. July 4 at Hills Center Drive. The parade is slated to begin at the corner of Hillpointe Road and Hills Center Drive in The Trails village of Summerlin. Participants travel south on Hills Center Drive toward the Village Center Circle roundabout before heading west on Trailwood Drive. An Independence Day Jubilee is set to begin at 6 p.m. July 3 at James Seastrand Park, 6330 Camino Eldorado in North Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Philharmonic plans to host 4th with the Phil in Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, 361 Symphony Park Ave., at 7:30 p.m. July 4. The orchestra is to be conducted by Matt Catingub, with guest vocalists Clint Holmes and Kristen Hertzenberg. A live audio transmission is planned at Symphony Park, with a fireworks display set for at 9 p.m. Symphony Park is also planning live entertainment and food and beverage stalls starting at 4 p.m. Concertgoers can watch the fireworks from the Reynolds Hall lobby, outside in Symphony Park or telecast onto a big screen in Reynolds Hall. Concert tickets are $25, $50 and $75. Entry to Symphony Park only is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 or younger. Boulder City is set to mark its 65th annual Damboree July 4 beginning with a 7 a.m. pancake breakfast at Bicentennial Park, 1100 Colorado St. A parade is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at Colorado Street and travel down Nevada Highway to Fifth Street and end at Broadbent Memorial Park, 1301 Fifth St. A new water play zone has been added along the parade route from Avenue A to Avenue B and from Avenue B to the end of the parade. No water balloons are allowed. Boulder City Veteran’s Flying Group pilots are set to fly overhead during the parade. Festivities are slated to continue throughout the day at Broadbent Memorial Park. Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich’s sustainable farmers market is set to be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Thursday inside the Desert Living Center at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. Three sea-based traveling exhibits are set to be on display through August at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, 900 Las Vegas Blvd. North. “Sea Monsters” explores some of the scary and dangerous characteristics and abilities of undersea dwellers, “Discovery Reef” looks at the interconnection of coral reefs and the creatures that live there, and “Sanctuary Reef” features a replica of a coral reef in the Florida Keys and discusses the reef and the human impact on it.
