Worth a Drive

The 16th annual Bite of Las Vegas food and music festival is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Desert Breeze Park, 8275 Spring Mountain Road. Headliners include: Matchbox Twenty, Alanis Morissette, Ed Sheeran, Rebecca Ferguson, Tristan Prettyman and Phillip Phillips. Tickets are $13. Children 8 or younger get in free. The third annual Asian Harvest Moon Festival is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd. Expect traditional music and dance performances, arts and crafts, a children's lantern parade, and food and drink concessions. Around 300 visitors are expected for this year's Pioneer Day scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. The park plans to offer pioneer activities throughout the day, including candle dipping, needlework and dancing. Fiddlers also are scheduled to perform. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Taras Krysa, is set to open its season with "Beethoven and Dvorak" at 7:30 p.m. today at the Artemus W. The touring "Tree House: Look Who's Living in the Trees" exhibit is scheduled to be on display through Jan. 14 on the second floor of the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The exhibit includes a tree house kids can explore, 3-D images of animals living in trees, an animal dance floor where kids can try to identify animal sounds and a computer forest game where patrons can harvest trees without harming wildlife. Cocktails & Canvas, a live collaborative art event, is planned at 5:45 p.m. Saturday at Loftworks, 6405 S. Tenaya Way. All proceeds are to benefit the charity New Vista. Sixteen artists are set to collaborate on 13 original works on everything from canvas to a hybrid sports car donated by Gaudin Fisker of Las Vegas.
