This is the Democratic “plan” in Nevada for the mortgage crisis
Here's the lamest press release to cross my Blackberry in some time. And, believe me, that's saying a lot. It pretends to say: "We're Democrats and we're here to help". What it really says is "Good luck with that mortgage. Hope you can eat this press release".
Look, it's one thing to say you're going to "enact real solutions to the foreclosure crisis" and another to actually explain what that might be in the kind of detail that might make it worth thinking about. Perhaps Senate Democrats don't have the detail because they are still working with super Democrat mortgage thinker Barney Frank for the finishing touches to the game plan.
C'mon, ladies and gents: This is a serious time for Nevadans and the nation. Lightweight political bullstuff like this just isn't helpful.

NEVADA SENATE DEMOCRATS ANNOUNCE PLAN TO PROTECT HOMEOWNERS AND ENACT REAL SOLUTIONS TO THE FORECLOSURE CRISIS
Pledge to protect renters and Nevada neighborhoods from further harm
(Las Vegas, NV) – Democratic Senate Leader Steven Horsford, Nevada Senate Democrats and Senate candidate Allison Copening, a native Nevadan and small business owner, announce that during the 2009 Legislative Session, they plan to deal with the foreclosure crisis and protect Nevada homeowners.
“For nearly two years, Nevada has lead the nation in home foreclosures. As a result, our homes have declined in value, homeowners are losing significant equity in their homes, and our neighborhoods are suffering,” said Senator Horsford. “As we face uncertain economic times, we must do what we can to help Nevada homeowners. In these tough times, homeowners should not fear losing the one thing they have worked so hard to achieve, a home for themselves and their family.”
The Senate Democrats’ plan calls for:
• Increased oversight and regulation of the state’s mortgage lending agencies.
• Opposition to any attempts to raise property taxes.
• Protections for renters who face eviction due to the actions of unscrupulous landlords.
“Some in the mortgage lending industry are responsible for loose, and in some instances, fraudulent practices which require greater oversight and regulation by the state’s regulatory agencies,” said Senator Steven Horsford. “We need action on this important issue that is why Senate Democrats will make this an important priority in the upcoming session.”
Senate Democrats have prepared a plan that will protect homeowners from being burdened by increased costs. “We cannot afford to place further burdens on our homeowners and will oppose any attempts to raise property taxes,” Horsford added.
Nevadans who pay their monthly rent have also been hit hard. Many of these residents are evicted within days of paying their rent because their landlords did not use this money to pay the mortgage on the home. “This is why I have requested a bill to hold these innocent renters harmless and to allow them to live in their residences for the duration of their good-faith payments,” said State Senator Valerie Wiener.
“I look forward to have the opportunity to work with Senator Wiener and other legislators who see this as an important issue to provide relief to the homeowners in Senate District 6 and throughout Nevada,” said Allison Copening, candidate for State Senate District 6. “Walking the neighborhoods of Senate District 6, I see streets that were once promising neighborhoods in current disrepair. Neighbors who take pride in their home have lost home equity because of the number of foreclosures on their street. Now, more than ever, we have to find practical solutions to protect our communities in these difficult times,” concluded Copening.
