Titus building up warchest with $1.2 million cash on hand

Congresswoman Dina Titus has built up a campaign warchest of $1.2 million in cash, according to her latest financial report.

The freshman Democrat raised $425,892.48 during the second quarter ending June 30.

But she hasn't been spending very much during the past three months -- only $119,817.11, according to the report her campaign filed with the Federal Election Commission.

That means she'll have lots of money to spend through the fall against her Republican opponent, Joe Heck, a former state senator and physician.

Titus is in a tough race to win re-election in her swing Congressional District 3 in Southern Nevada. She's the first Democrat to hold the seat, having been swept into office thanks in part to a boost in Democratic Party registration that helped elect President Barack Obama.

Heck is getting strong backing from the national Republican Party, which hopes to win back the CD3 seat -- and the House on Nov. 2.
