Toddler dies after being left in crib for 38 hours

St. Charles, MO — Two adults are facing charges in the death of a toddler found deceased in his crib in St. Charles on December 19, 2015 in the 3700 block of Baden Street.
According to court records, Kathleen Peacock and Lucas Barnes are both charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.

Police said on Friday 2-year-old Braydon Barnes was put in his crib and a space heater was turned on. The boy was left in the crib for 38 hours, according to police, with no one checking on his well-being.

On December 20, 2015 Braydon was found dead in his crib.
According to police, Peacock told officers that she heard Braydon make a noise, and knew she should check on him, but she did not.

Police said the space heater had no thermostat and does not automatically turn off. The boy reportedly died from hyperthermia. Police also said the boy was very thin and showed signs of not eating for at least two days.
Both Peacock and Barnes told police they manufactured meth in their home the week prior to the incident.

Police noted they found meth-making materials in a trash can and that the house was in such a condition that it should be condemned.

Authorities also said Peacock has pending charge of endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly driving while intoxicated with her child inside the car.
