Trudi’s romance quickie: ‘Some Like It Wicked’

In Teresa Medeiros’ “Some Like It Wicked,” set in 1805, Catriona Kincaid is determined to return to Scotland to find her brother, reclaim her family home and bring peace to her people. In order to do so, she rescues Sir Simon Wescott from debtor’s prison under the pretense that their marriage will be in name only and, after he has delivered her to her brother, he is free to do as he pleases with his half of her dowry.
But, unknown to Simon, Catriona has had a crush on him since she saw him as the returning hero from battling Napoleon in Trafalgar.
On their journey to the Highlands, Simon realizes that he isn’t the man Catriona has made him out to be. He confesses the fiasco that named him hero is a total falsehood. He tries to make Catriona see that he is not what she has envisioned him to be, that he can’t be her hero. Catriona returns to England and her uncles home defeated; she couldn’t save her home, she couldn’t make the man she loves love her and now she is sentenced and ridiculed as a woman who couldn’t please her husband.
Finding her “backbone” inherited from her Highlander ancestors, Catriona decides to save her ancestral home by becoming The Kincaid herself, as her brother cannot be found. Upon her arrival back in the Highlands, she finds her husband already has come to bring the remaining Kincaid Clad together to save her family home. And of course, they discover true love.
“Some Like It Wicked” is filled with adventure and peril and is a very enjoyable read.
