TV: Newton ready to play the Feud
Bill Engvall vs. Larry the Cable Guy makes sense. The stars of “My Name Is Earl” vs. the show’s recurring characters should be a dandy. But what’s Wayne Newton got against Raven-Symone?
Those are just three of the match-ups NBC has announced for “Celebrity Family Feud” (premieres at 8 p.m. July 1, KVBC-TV, Channel 3).
In his battle against the Cosby kid-turned-Disney mogul, Newton has enlisted the help of his daughter Erin, his wife, Kathleen, and her mother and sister. (Raven-Symone, meanwhile, needed help filling out her team and had to reach out to her TV parents from “That’s So Raven.”)
And Newton won’t be able to rely on help from his fellow Strip performer John O’Hurley, who hosts the syndicated version of the show. Al Roker takes over those duties for prime-time.
Each episode will offer as much as $50,000 to the winner’s charity. (Newton is playing for The USO.)
And in a cruel twist of fate, Ed McMahon, who’s dragging his family along and could really use $50,000 to help pay off his mortgage, also will have to surrender any winnings to charity.
