TV PRESS TOUR: Emmys’ Vegas connection
As expected, “Mad Men” dominated this morning’s Emmy nominations, and after touring the set on Tuesday I can see why. The attention it pays to re-creating the 1960s is phenomenal.
But there was a Las Vegas angle, however slight, to this year’s nominees.
Vegas native Jimmy Kimmel’s show was nominated for four Emmys, three of which came for his and Sarah Silverman’s dueling raunchy Matt Damon/Ben Affleck videos.
Julianne Hough -- who performed three songs off her new country album for critics Wednesday and once again praised the year she spent at the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts in an interview afterward -- was nominated for outstanding choreography for the mambo routine she created for her and Helio Castroneves.
And “Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project,” which was filmed at the Stardust, was nominated for outstanding variety, music or comedy special and for outstanding individual performance in a variety or music program.
