Tyson documentary sells to Sony

  It’s been sitting in my notebook for a few days, so forgive me. But here’s an update on the journey of writer James Toback’s Mike Tyson documentary.

  To my knowlege Nicole Sperling first reported this at Hollywood Insider. The multi-talented Steve Lott brought it to my attention. Sony Pictures Classics has purchased the documentary, which of necessity will have plenty of Las Vegas footage.

  If Toback’s name isn’t familiar, it probably should be. He wrote the screenplay for the movie “Bugsy,” “The Gambler,” and many more big-screen hits. He also directs.

  And, as local gambling denizens have long understood, Toback sure knows his way around a casino.
