Watch out cable, local TV: Here comes Hulu.com

This little exchange from some of my Facebook friends may illustrate a fast approaching business model crisis for television and cable owners.

It went like this:

Friend A: "Friend A is addicted to Hulu."

Friend B: "We enjoy watching Hulu as well. We don't have cable TV so it comes in handy."

Friend A: "Yuppers. I've been cable-free too for 3 years now."

If Hulu.com catches on, cable companies will face a real challenge holding on to their market, big networks may have a shot at leaping over local affiliates, and local old-school teevee stations will get crunched.
