When in Burma …
I'll cut the president a little slack on this. After all, it isn't as if the president of the United States went to a foreign country and fell to bended knee before foreign kings -- oh, wait, he's done that, too.
It's just that when you visit a foreign land and honor their heroes of freedom, it would be good if you found the time to do a little prep and then did them the courtesy of pronouncing their names correctly.
Keith Koffler takes the president to task for repeatedly mispronouncing the name of Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel laureate and former political prisoner who helped bring freedom to Burma. You can get the sorry details here.
It's going to be a long four more years with President Obama back at the helm. You'd like to think that the president would knuckle down and do a better job. Then there are signs like this of making unforced errors with simple pronunciations that make you realize that this Obama is the old Obama -- a little lazy and seemingly in the presidency not to fix things, but for the travel and the parties.
Oh, dear. I fear I have not cut the president any slack on this. Well, live with it.
