When Las Vegas was Vegas, baby!

The storied Las Vegas Country Club is beginning to embrace its history. The club has commissioned a book that I am told is going to be a keeper for anyone who loves Old Vegas. Members are also finding and displaying pictures of celebrities and icons of Vegas history.

(As an aside, I hope the book will include the story about how the Las Vegas Country Club board kicked mobster Anthony "The Ant" Spilotro out of the club then looked around the room and said: "Who's gonna tell him?")

In the later "icon" category comes a great picture of Moe Dalitz, Al Sachs and Herb Tobman. Each one of these guys would make a great book in and of themselves. But in particular, Dalitz. The definitive story of a guy who went from organized crime figure to the Las Vegas Conference of Christians and Jews "Man of the Year" has yet to be written.
