While Obama snoozes on vacation…Georgia invasion shows McCain stronger leader

Arianna Huffington blogs on her website (Huffington Post) that she hopes Sen. Barrack Obama will return from his Hawaii vacation with a plan to show that Republicans in general and Sen. John McCain in specific are not "ready to lead" on national security.

She rightly points out that this is an issue that traditionally has been Republican domain and between now and voting day there will be something in the world that reminds voters that "in these dangerous times" it is the president's job to keep us safe. "So allowing the GOP to claim it has the advantage on this is nothing less than disastrous for Democrats."

Huffington (who is rooting hard for Obama) is right to be worried. But, I'm afraid that horse is already out of the barn.

The invasion of Georgia by Russia is proof again that in this dangerous world McCain has the right instincts and Obama is a like a deer in headlights.

By the time the gruesome invasion hit American airwaves, McCain had already called the president of Georgia personally and issued a public statement for Russia to stand down from the invasion. A day later, Obama issued a mamby-pamby statement that could easily have been drafted by the Kremlin. And President Bush, late to the party, found time to break away from watching Olympic basketball to condemn the invasion a full 48 hours after McCain.

World events have made Arianna's worry moot. You don't have to guess who'd be the better American leader on the world stage. That would be John McCain. Obama's still on vacation.
