Will LVCVA’s ‘terrorist analyst’ play it straight?

Word that the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, chartered to promote tourism and economic vitality, has set aside $480,000 to
hire a “terrorist intelligence analyst” sounds like a good idea upon first blush.

But the hire begs the obvious question: Will the LVCVA’s hire appear more like a public relations specialist than a terrorism analyst?

There’s a built-in conflict.

Tell us all is well and we’ll be left wondering: Is this what you really think, or are you trying to please your employer?

Will close calls be written off as non-news?

Those are the kinds of questions this arrangement could generate.

Says AP: “The analyst will work under Las Vegas police in the Southern Nevada Counter terrorism Fusion Center.”

Officials have set aside $148,000 to fund the position next year.
