YOUR WEEKEND: All rise, and sing!
The Las Vegas Master Singers Chamber Chorale, consisting of about 25 voices, will perform a selection of holiday favorites during a midday concert on Friday, Dec. 19. The performance is open to the public and will be given at an unusual venue: the jury selection room of the
downtown federal courthouse.
The city of Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs is sponsoring the holiday concert at the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse, located at 333 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
Admission is free. The one-hour concert begins at noon. Secular and traditional holiday selections will be performed with Doug Wilson providing piano accompaniment. Songs include "Carol of the Bells," "Do You Hear What I Hear," "Jingle Bells," "The Lights of Hanukkah" and other holiday selections. Soloists from the choir also will lend their voices with various carols.
Audience members are invited to bring lunch and enjoy the show.
The Las Vegas Master Singers group was founded in 1993, bringing together people throughout the community who love to sing for what founder Susan Johnson described as “the joy of it.” The full Master Singers group, which numbers more than 70 voices, and its smaller Chamber Chorale are both under the direction of Dr. Jocelyn K. Jensen.
The Master Singers have performed in the past along with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the Henderson Civic Symphony and the Nevada Chamber Symphony.
