YOUR WEEKEND: Community choirs to present fall concerts
Two of the valley's community choirs will be presenting concerts this week.
The Las Vegas Master Singers will present “Sound Fusion,” featuring the UNLV Jazz Ensemble, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at Community Lutheran Church, 3720 E. Tropicana Blvd.
The concert will feature songs ranging from Broadway musicals to the great American songbook. The singers also will premiere the Las Vegas debut of a variety of pieces by modern composer Bill Cunliffe.
This fundraising concert supports the LVMS-established Susan L. Johnson scholarship fund for UNLV vocal music students, as well as the UNLV Jazz Department. All seats are $20, and tickets are available at the door. Visit www.lvmastersingers.com for information.
The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society, under the direction of Douglas Peterson, presents a concert at 3 p.m., Oct. 25 at UNLV’s Artemus Ham Concert Hall, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.
A 65-voice musical arts chorus and musical arts orchestra, with guest soloists, will perform George Frideric Handel’s majestic Coronation Anthem No. 1 "Zadok the Priest" and Joseph Haydn’s Creation Mass in Bb. Pianist Masha Pisarenko and the Musical Arts Orchestra will perform W.A. Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21.
