YOUR WEEKEND: Downtown farmers market to celebrate grand opening

The Las Vegas Farmers Market will celebrate its Fremont East Entertainment District grand opening with a carrot breaking at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 1.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman will host the event, which will be from 4 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot of the El Cortez, 600 Fremont St. The weekly farmers market will feature more than 20 vendors bringing fresh foods for purchase, including fruits, vegetables, a variety of breads and pastries, pastas, salad mixes and more.

The market will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. every Friday.

Those attending Friday's grand opening also are invited to stay and enjoy First Friday events from 6 to 10 p.m. For more information, visit www.lasvegasfarmersmarket.com.
