YOUR WEEKEND: Enjoy free movies around town

Who really wants to pay $10 a pop for a movie, anyway? Here's a listing of places around town where you can catch some free flicks this weekend.

Henderson

Enjoy ”The Sound of Music,” starring Julie Andrews, on Thursday, July 31, at MonteLago Village at Lake Las Vegas. For more movies, stop by The District at Green Valley Ranch for “Alvin and the Chipmunks” on Friday, Aug. 1, and “Nim’s Island” on Saturday, Aug. 2. All shows are free and start at 8 p.m.

Sunrise and Whitney areas

A free screening of the science fiction movie “Jumper” is set for 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at the Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave. 507-3900.

Like to see spots? Then a free screening of “101 Dalmatians” will be perfect. The film is set to start at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at the Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave., 507-4010. The library also is planning free screenings of “Dirty Harry,” 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, and “Nancy Drew,” 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3.
