YOUR WEEKEND: Get your free comic book on Saturday

Modern consumers know very well that the word “free” rarely means “costing nothing.” There’s usually at least one string attached. But on Saturday, all 13 comic book shops in the Las Vegas Valley will participate in an annual international event called Free Comic Day. Yes, the comic books are really free. About 40 different titles specially created for the event will be given away. Not all shops will have all books, though.

Free Comic Day is held the first weekend of May each year and typically coincides with the opening of a big-budget Hollywood movie about a comic book hero. This year that movie is “Iron Man,” based on an old Marvel character.

For more information about the event locally and for the addresses of all the area shops, check out this View article.
