Student Showcase at East Las Vegas Community Senior Center

Free homeownership seminar

June is National Homeownership Month and several area nonprofit organizations are celebrating by hosting Housing Heatwave, a free homeownership seminar June 28.

The City Impact Center, a faith-based community group, hosts the event at its facility at 950 E. Sahara Ave., starting at 10 a.m.

Participants can learn about FHA loans and home inspections as well as taking part in a mock title company closing ceremony. The sponsor of the event is the Home HOPE Foundation, headed by local real estate broker Dawn Lane (pictured right). HOPE provides free educational services to first-time buyers and can steer many prospective homeowners to financial assistance programs geared toward families and individuals with incomes below the median level. Local representatives of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will also be on hand. To learn more, visit the organization's site or call 497-6967.
