YOUR WEEKEND: Local police roll out checkpoints for holiday

Another holiday weekend is coming and that means police are bringing out the driving under the influence checkpoints.

Local police department’s traffic units will be working to take impaired drivers off the streets from Aug. 28 through Labor Day, Sept. 7.

Officers from the Henderson Police Department, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, North Las Vegas Police Department, Boulder City Police Department and Nevada Highway Patrol will provide enhanced traffic law enforcement. The goal of this effort is to locate and arrest drunken or drugged drivers.

Officers will use DUI check points and saturation patrols in different areas to target impaired drivers.

In 2008, more than 11,000 people were killed in the United States in alcohol related automobile accidents.
