YOUR WEEKEND: Rollergirls face off Saturday

The Fabulous Sin City Rollergirls will face off with the Arizona Roller Derby in the Live Action Roller Derby Showdown of the Wild West at 8 p.m. April 25. The doors open at 7 p.m. at the Las Vegas Roller Hockey Rink, 953 E. Sahara Ave. in Commercial Center.

Roller derby is a fast-paced sport played on roller skates. Players choose unique stage names to fit their personas. A few of the Sin City Rollergirls have names like Shawna Th’dead, Shebacca and Anna Sasin. You can read more about the sport in a 2008 article by reporter F. Andrew Taylor.

Tickets to this Saturday’s showdown are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. Kids 10 and under and EMTs are free. For more information, visit the Sin City Rollergirls online.
