YOUR WEEKEND: Schools host fundraising events

Three schools will be hosting fundraising events this weekend.

The Cheyenne High School Class of 1999 will be at the  Speedee Mart Convenience Store at 2841 W. Craig Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 16 to raise money to donate to Cheyenne High School.

A fundraiser will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. May 16 to raise money for the William McCool Science Center at Lamping Elementary School, 2551 Summit Grove, Henderson. The event, which will be held at the school, will include a barbecue, entertainment, hands-on science exploration stations, stargazing, planetarium shos, and outdoor movie, silent and live auctions, and more.

The science center has a full laboratory, technology center, nutrition center, space shuttle simulator and mission control center, hummingbird habitiat, tri-desert garden, paleontology dig area and more.

The science center, which opened in 2005, was named for William McCool, who died on the Space Shuttle Columbia in 2003. His parents are former Las Vegas residents. He had planned to teach science after retiring from NASA.

The Henderson International School is hosting an arts and music festival from 1 to 7 p.m. on May 17 on the school campus, 1165 Sandy Ridge Ave. The event will feature auctions, arts and crafts, food, music, face painters and balloon artists.
