Las Vegas land prices have more than doubled since the depths of the Great Recession. Buyers paid a median price of $383,838 per acre last year, up from $166,786 an acre in 2012, according to Colliers International. Land is selling at higher prices as construction gains steam. Developers have packed the valley with apartment complexes, housing tracts, warehouses and other projects in recent years. There have also been more land sales on or near the Strip the past few years.

In early 2019 Las Vegas home prices were rising at the fastest rate in the nation. But Las Vegas ended 2019 with some of the slowest-rising prices in the nation. In December, Southern Nevada prices were up 2.6% year-over-year in December, compared to 3.8% nationwide, according to the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller index . Phoenix saw a a 6.5% price gain. Charlotte, North Carolina saw a 5.3% price gain. Tampa, Florida saw a 5.2% price gain. Prices rose just 1% in Chicago and New York.

U.S. health officials warned Tuesday it’s inevitable the deadly coronavirus will spread in the US. “It’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen” — Dr. Nancy Messonnier, CDC Hospitals are beginning to prepare. Hospitals are reviewing infection control measures, looking at telemedicine to interact with infectious patients, and conserving masks and gloves. The CDC has held 17 calls reaching more than 11,000 companies and organizations, including stadiums, universities, faith leaders, retailers and large corporations. The first clinical trial in the U.S. of a possible coronavirus treatment is underway in Nebraska. The COVID-19 virus has infected more than 80,000 people and killed more than 2,700.
