Six UNLV football players leave team

Six UNLV football players are no longer with the team.

Wide receiver Marquis Thompson, defensive tackle Nate Holloway, cornerback Ken Spigner and offensive guard Allen Carroll are not in school. UNLV cannot give a reason because of federal privacy laws.

Also, wide receiver Kurt Davis and offensive lineman Nick White have decided to transfer.

The losses of Thompson and Holloway could be especially damaging. Though a freshman, Thompson had a terrific spring and appeared as if he would play a big role next season. Holloway, who went to Spring Valley High School, was expected to compete with Tyler Gaston for a starting job.

In other news, the Rebels will play at Michigan in 2015 and will receive a $1 million guarantee. UNLV coach Bobby Hauck has been trying to ease the schedules, but the big payday would help an athletic department that could use the financial boost.
