BYU student claims meth lab was soap-making operation

Police say a meth lab discovered in student housing near Brigham Young University was, in fact, a meth lab — not a soap-making operation, as the suspect claimed.
The lab was discovered last week after a fire was reported in 21-year-old BYU student Bryce Crazier’s room at the Riviera apartment complex in Provo.
Crazier told his roommates he had spilled some rubbing alcohol and that had caused the blaze, but his roommates found the makings of a meth lab when they entered his room.
Crazier’s lawyer told KSL the student liked making soap, not meth, but Provo police say evidence points to the contrary.
“What gives this away that it was a meth lab is the fact it’s a meth lab,” said Provo Police Sgt. Brandon Post.
Crazier was booked in the Utah County Jail and charged with having precursors or equipment for a clandestine laboratory, a first-degree felony.
