First-term jurists get ratings break

Newly elected and appointed judges tend to get the benefit of the doubt from local attorneys during their early days on the bench, according to results of the 2010 Judicial Performance Evaluation Survey.

Five jurists rated in this year’s judicial survey are running in contested elections for judicial seats. The publication today of attorneys’ recommendations whether they should be retained in office is intended to help voters decide whether to elect them again, or make some other lawyer a judge.

Nevada State College makes history, sees 1,000th graduate tonight during ceremony

Shella Lynn Gordon became the 1,000th graduate of Nevada State College during a commencement ceremony tonight at the Henderson Pavilion in Henderson. The four-year school in Henderson opened its doors seven years ago and held its its first commencement ceremony in May 2004 with just 13 graduates.
