High school player dies after winning shot

FENNVILLE, Mich. — A Michigan high school’s star basketball player collapsed on the court and later died after making a game-winning layup in overtime to cap his team’s perfect season. Wes Leonard of Fennville High died Thursday night. A cause of death has not yet been determined. Paramedics performed CPR on the 16-year-old before he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

National unemployment dips to 8.9 percent, 192,000 jobs added

WASHINGTON — Employers hired in February at the fastest pace in almost a year and the unemployment rate fell to 8.9 percent – a nearly two-year low. The economy added 192,000 jobs last month, with factories, professional and business services, education and health care among those expanding employment. Retailers, however, trimmed jobs. State and local governments, wrestling with budget shortfalls, slashed 30,000 jobs, the most since November.
