Kids to tackle community issues in Ward 6 Youth Council

Tackling the area’s toughest issues has long been the responsibility of the Las Vegas City Council. Now, kids are going to have a turn at it. The inaugural Ward 6 Youth Council, including students from Northwest Career and Technical Academy, Peterson Behavior Jr/Sr High School and Arbor View, Centennial and Shadow Ridge high schools, is scheduled to meet in January.

The sound of a trumpet blaring over the loudspeaker is the first clue that this is not a regular clinic day at the UNLV School of Dental Medicine. This is the Sergeant Clint Ferrin Dental Clinic, which provides care to veterans with no dental coverage.

Sin and evil can grow uncomfortably close to those who are careless

“All evil includes sin, but not all sin is evil.” Would lying fit here? For example: lying is a sin, but lying to save somebody from harm is not evil. “Crime most often includes sin, but not all sin is criminal.” Would consensual sex between two single adults fit here? Their act is a sin because they are not married, but it is not a crime.

Resident’s ministry cares for needy near downtown neighborhood

Brady Bowles, founder of His Hands Ministry, spends most of his time and little income hosting Bible studies and community outreach events for people of all ages, operating out of an old church building on Roosevelt Street in North Las Vegas, just north of downtown Las Vegas.
