Mercer star Nwamu transfers to UNLV

Ike Nwamu, a 6-foot-5-inch shooting guard, announced Saturday he is transferring from Mercer to play basketball at UNLV. He led the Bears in scoring last season at 15.1 points per game and shot 37.2 percent from 3-point range. As a graduate transfer, Nwamu will be eligible for the 2015-16 season.

Four Rebels, including Davis and Boyko, sign NFL free-agent deals

UNLV wide receiver Devante Davis and offensive lineman Brett Boyko weren’t selected in the NFL Draft, then signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday. Also, cornerback Kenneth Penny signed with the Cleveland Browns and defensive end Josh Shirley with the Oakland Raiders.

Lomachenko retains WBO title; Santa Cruz rolls in featherweight debut

Vasyl Lomachenko, the WBO featherweight champion, successfully defended his title with a ninth-round knockout over Gamalier Rodriguez. Leo Santa Cruz, the WBC super bantamweight champ, moved up to featherweight and won a 10-round unanimous decision over Jose Cayetano.
