The Jean Nidetch Women’s Center at UNLV is making efforts toward helping sexual assault victims, hoping to offer sexual assault kits in the near future. Last fall, as a way to work with populations that might be overlooked, it obtained a grant to have a care advocate specifically for LGBT students.

April 22 was a day filled with wonder for youngsters at Merryhill Preschool, 10050 Alta Drive. The school held an Earth Day program with plenty of activities to coincide with its reduce, recycle, reuse program. A highlight of the day was students releasing live ladybugs.
For the last 60-plus years, Betty Jo Peisker and Pat Gandrud have been by each other’s side through the good times and the bad. When Gandrud, 86, died Feb. 25, it was fitting that Peisker was there, too: The two had been friends since before Henderson was incorporated as a city in 1953.
After 14 years at the company, Ryan Paulos has been appointed vice president and general manager at the Cannery. He started out as a knight at the Excalibur and went on to be a gladiator at Caesars in Atlantic City. With Boyd Gaming purchasing the Cannery and North Las Vegas’ presence as a technology hub, he is looking forward to attracting a new type of customer.
