SUNRISE SOFTBALL: Coles homers, helps Rancho claim title

After being pulled earlier in the game when she got a little woozy in the heat, Kayla Coles re-entered and blasted a solo home run to help Rancho to an 8-0 win over Liberty in the Sunrise final at Bishop Gorman. It’s the first region title for Rancho, which will compete for its third state title next week in Reno.

SMALL-SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Higbee, Panthers rout Thunderbirds

Brook Higbee went 3-for-3 with a double and a home run Saturday to lead Pahranagat Valley to an 18-4 victory over visiting Indian Springs for the Division IV Southern League tournament title.

SUNSET VOLLEYBALL: Aggies outlast Palo Verde for first region title

Treven Clizbe had 26 kills and 23 digs, and Brenden Wagner added 22 kills and 13 digs Friday as Arbor View claimed its first region title by outlasting the Panthers, 19-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 15-8 in the Division I Sunset Region final at Legacy. Both teams advance to next week’s state tournament.

SUNSET BASEBALL: Gaels find missing ingredient, rout Cimarron

Beau Capanna hit a second-inning grand slam, and Gorman had 12 hits en route to a 10-0, five-inning win over Cimarron in the losers’ bracket final. The Gaels (31-5) play Centennial (26-9) in the championship round at noon on Saturday. Gorman would have to win twice to capture the title and earn a berth at state.

SUNRISE VOLLEYBALL: Gators sweep Foothill to claim crown

Chase Larson had 11 kills and eight blocks, and James Reed added 15 kills and seven digs to help Green Valley sweep Foothill 26-24, 27-25, 25-17 in the Division I Sunrise Region final at Legacy.

SUNSET SOFTBALL: Zahn scores in eighth as Palo Verde slides into final on Bulldog error

Camden Zahn hit a chopper just inside of first base to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning and raced around to score on a wild throw after a sacrifice bunt to lift the Palo Verde to a 10-9 win over Centennial in the losers’ bracket final of the Division I Sunset Region softball tournament at Bishop Gorman.
