DEAR Gail: We recently moved here from North Dakota, so we are new to the Las Vegas summer weather. I know that for most people it’s still considered cool, but for us, it’s already pretty warm. The home we purchased doesn’t have ceiling fans, so we’d like to get some installed before the true heat of the summer gets here. Could you share some things we need to consider before buying? — Marjorie

Q: We recently got a small dog, and he likes to play in the backyard. The problem is that he is able to squeeze through the bars of the wrought-iron gate on the side of the house. Some of the neighbors have installed mesh across their gates to prevent their dogs from escaping. How can I go about this project?

Let’s talk about wind damage. If you didn’t sustain wind damage to your landscape, you are extremely lucky. It was fortunate these high winds occurred early in the season, and many trees were not yet full of leaves. If it had been a few weeks later, the damage would have been worse.
