Semitrailer runs over, kills woman in central Las Vegas

Updated May 31, 2017 - 3:26 am

A woman died after she was run over by a semitrailer Tuesday night in the central Las Vegas Valley.

Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident in a Walgreens parking lot at 1180 E. Flamingo Road, near Maryland Parkway, Lt. David Gordon said.

The Walgreens-branded semi was turning into the business parking lot about 11:45 p.m. when it ran over the woman, police said. Sgt. Paul McCullough said the woman was in either a chair or a bed roll on the sidewalk. She may have been homeless.

She died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

On Wednesday, the Clark County coroner’s office identified the woman as 53-year-old Kelli Sue Weed of Las Vegas. She died of blunt-force trauma; her manner of death was ruled an accident.

McCullough said the trailer portion jumped the sidewalk as it turned.

The driver felt he hit something, backed up the semi, got out and found her on the ground. McCullough said the driver remained on scene and was not suspected of impairment.

Metro said no arrests were made at the scene.
