Body of missing swimmer found in Colorado River

Updated July 3, 2017 - 5:58 am

The body of a man who went missing late Sunday was recovered Monday from the Arizona side of the Colorado River in Bullhead City.

Bullhead City Police Department spokeswoman Carina Spotts said officers responded at 11:45 p.m. to reports that a man in the water by the Golden Nugget casino in Laughlin appeared to be in distress. An unsuccessful search was suspended overnight.

“The male reportedly struggled, yelled for help, then went under the water,” Metropolitan Police Department Lt. David Gordon said.

The body of the possible drowning victim was recovered from the river at 8:50 a.m. Monday near Moser Avenue in Bullhead City.

The Clark County Fire Department also responded, records show. The department couldn’t be immediately reached for comment.

Spotts said it’s unclear how the California man came to be in the water. His name is withheld pending notification of kin.
