Rare squidworm spotted during Galapagos exploration — VIDEO
A rare sea creature called the squidworm was just spotted in the Galapagos Islands by a team of underwater explorers.
The aquatic creature was first discovered by marine biologists a few years ago, CNN reports, but scientists with Nautilus Live captured footage of the elusive worm while studying ocean vents.
“They’ve been known to exhibit both pelagic (free-swimming) and benthic (seabed-living) charactersitics, so they’re a transitional creature,” one observer noted.
The squidworm was named for the tentacle-like appendages on its head, which it uses to collect food particles in the water, according to the Smithsonian.
