Chicago cop caught sleeping in his patrol car — VIDEO

A Chicago police officer was caught on camera sleeping in his patrol car with the windows down in broad daylight.

“People get shot and killed here all the time,” the videographer said. “But he’s still here sleeping.”

Former Police Superintendent Richard Brezak said the behavior was unacceptable and a bad image for the department, in a report by CBS Chicago.

“You have to be alert all the time, and of course the antithesis of being alert is being asleep,” Brezak said. “You’re really putting yourself in an extremely dangerous situation. Somebody could reach in a kill him with his own gun, and he would never know what happened.”

The Chicago Police Department said the incident did not follow the high expectations placed on its officers.

The officer faces potential discipline following an internal affairs investigation.
