49ers’ Colin Kaepernick sorry for ‘insensitive’ post about Houston flooding

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick deleted and then apologized for an insensitive social media post regarding the deadly floods in Houston.

On Tuesday, Kaepernick made light of the storms and floodwaters by posting a photo on his Instagram account of submerged cars in Houston, where the 49ers open the preseason.

With the photo, he wrote: “I warned you the #7torms Coming !!! #Houston.” Kaepernick’s jersey number is 7.

Kaepernick deleted the post shortly thereafter, and issued an initial apology on Twitter: “No disrespect intended! Prayers up!”

Two hours later, Kaepernick issue a stronger apology and a less trivial response about the situation in Houston.

“I’m so sorry about my insensitive post earlier today. I didn’t fully understand how many people are struggling in Houston right now and I feel horrible. My prayers are with everyone there,” wrote Kaepernick, who has nearly 1.3 million followers on Instagram and 755,000 Twitter followers.

Houston, the nation’s fourth-largest city, continues to struggle Wednesday morning after flooding killed at least five people, damaged thousands of structures and stranded thousands on roads.
