Former assistant to Mohave County supervisor appointed Arizona state senator

Sue Donahue has been selected for appointment to the Arizona state Senate in a massive legislative district covering much of northwest Arizona. Donahue will succeed fellow Lake Havasu City Republican Kelli Ward, who resigned last week to devote more time to her bid to unseat U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

Donahue retired five months ago after working for 13 years as an administrative assistant to Buster Johnson, the senior member of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors. She said that experience will benefit her in the state legislature in Phoenix.

Donahue said she'll serve out the year remaining in Ward's term but will not seek election in legislative District 5 in next year's elections.
