Kingman vice mayor resigns

Vice Mayor Mark Wimpee has resigned from the Kingman City Council in northwestern Arizona.

Wimpee drew public criticism during the Oct. 13 council meeting regarding the closure of his First Generation Builders contracting business and complaints from customers about unfinished projects. Some called for the council to remove him from office.Wimpee said he would like to continue serving as vice mayor but noted that the "haters" continue to plan to attack him publicly. He said resigning separates the city from that negativity.Wimpee has served on the council for 3½ years. His term expires at the end of November 2016.

The council will consider how to fill the vacancy at a meeting Tuesday.
