Power outage delayed Tuesday’s RJ deliveries

Review-Journal home deliveries ran at least three hours behind schedule Tuesday morning after a power outage resulting from a Monday night thunderstorm knocked out power to the newspaper's office and printing plant.

Telephone service to the newspaper's circulation department was also disrupted.

Joe Robidoux, the Review-Journal's vice president of circulation and packaging, said everything was back to normal on Tuesday, and Wednesday morning deliveries will not be affected.

The Review-Journal was among about 2,000 NV Energy customers who lost power during the storm marked by heavy rain and lightning Monday night. The newspaper offices at 1111 W. Bonanza Road has emergency generators that normally kick in when electrical service is lost, but a mechanical problem kept power from one of the generators from reaching the building, Robidoux said.

Power to the presses and other parts of the building was lost just before 7 p.m., and was restored about two hours later. More time was lost in bringing computers and systems back online.

Printing was done by 5:40 a.m., Robidoux said, about 3 hours and 40 minutes behind schedule, causing late deliveries across the valley.
