17 most popular baby names based on cars

For some parents, the main driver in picking a baby name is a car.

Yahoo managing editor Justin Hyde researched Social Security Administration data for registered newborns to see what the most popular baby names in 2014 were based on car names. Some — like Lincoln and Bentley — were the most popular among the thousands of babies named after cars.

This isn’t necessarily a new trend, either. Laura Wattenberg, founder of BabyNameWizard, a popular baby name website, told Yahoo that parents have looked to their cars for baby names for decades.

“You do see a lot of luxury brands cross the line onto baby names,” Wattenberg told Yahoo. “Any kind of brand associated with a lifestyle, like Armani or Prada … an obvious place to look is things you like and admire.”

What other names made the list? Here’s a look at the most popular baby names based on cars, broken down by the specific number of boys and girls who received each name in 2014.
