Metro raids marijuana grow house in Summerlin

A woman and a man, both in their early 50s, are in custody after a Thursday afternoon marijuana bust in a northwest valley apartment complex, according to Las Vegas police.

Officers responded about 1 p.m. to a week-old anonymous tip about a pot-growing operation in the 400 block of Crestdale Lane, near Town Center Drive and Hualapai Way.

Police recovered 70 mostly mature plants, an unusually large number for an apartment unit, said Lt. Laz Chavez with Metro’s narcotics division.

There was also evidence of packing and selling in the 1,600-square-foot three-bedroom apartment, near Bonner Elementary School and Summerlin Hospital and Medical Center.

The apartment’s downstairs garage was converted into a sophisticated grow operation, police said.

An upstairs bedroom that was directly next to the bedroom of the couple’s 10-year-old son also was converted, Chavez said. Police were concerned that the boy, who was at school at the time of the bust, was exposed to the production chemicals.

The man and woman were not under arrest Thursday night, Chavez said, but they could potentially face charges of possession, possession with intent to sell and production of marijuana.

Both have significant felony arrest histories, Chavez said Thursday.
