Ex-NLV City Manager Hacker named to Vegas post

Las Vegas leaders on Wednesday tapped former North Las Vegas City Manager Tim Hacker to head the city’s parks department.

Hacker, who also served as city manager in Mesquite, was named the city’s interim parks chief in May.

He takes over for Stephen Harsin, who is now the director of community services.

In his five months as the city’s interim parks department director, Hacker helped oversee the realignment of its employees out from under the umbrella of the city’s Office of Community Development.

He also helped implement controversial increases in park usage fees aimed at offsetting an estimated $10.9 million annual tab to operate and maintain the city’s 35 sports complexes and 155 sports fields.

City Manager Betsy Fretwell settled on Hacker after conducting a four-month nationwide search that attracted interest from 80 other applicants.

Her choice was unanimously ratified by a 6-0 City Council vote, with Councilman Steve Ross absent.

Hacker will oversee a $19.8 million budget and a team of 85 full- and part-time employees employees.

He will be paid a $155,000 annual salary plus benefits.
