Early voters turn out in smaller numbers for Nevada primary
The turnout for early voting in the 2014 primary election was the lowest it has been in years, according to the Nevada secretary of state’s office.
In Clark County, 53,057 people cast their ballots in the two-week early voting period from May 24 through June 6 — just under 7 percent of the county’s 775,950 registered voters.
Turnout was slightly lower than it was in 2012, when 56,455 Clark County voters came out to vote early in the primaries.
In the 2010 primary, 85,543 people from the county participated in early voting.
So far this year, 27,670 Democrats have voted, 31,436 Republicans have voted and 7,369 independents and third-party members turned out to vote in the primary.
People outside of Clark County made up about 33 percent of Nevada’s total of 1,153,522 registered voters in 2014, yet they turned out at percentages lower than any other county. Less than 10 percent of voters statewide came out for early voting.
The primary election will be Tuesday. Those who want to know their polling location should visit nvsos.gov online, and click on “Election Center.”
The general election will be Nov. 4.
