Here’s why Las Vegas is the 2nd-best honeymoon in the US

The Marriage Capital of the World has another claim to make: It’s not a bad place for a honeymoon, either.

That’s according to a new study done by WalletHub, which compared 100 of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the U.S. based on things like weather conditions, affordability, available activities and romanticism.

Las Vegas was ranked the second-best honeymoon destination in the country, behind Chicago (WalletHub didn’t explain how it decided what was considered “romantic” or an “activity”).

The city only ranked 34 out of 100 for weather (the average temperature on Aug. 23, the control date, is general far above the “ideal” temperature of 75 degrees). It ranked fifth for activities and romanticism combined, and when you take out romanticism, it bumps up to second place for activities alone, tied with San Francisco.

Where Las Vegas really shines, though, is in its affordability as a vacation destination: It was second in the nation for affordability, behind only Orlando, Fla. Here’s the top 10:

  1. Orlando, Fla.
  2. Las Vegas
  3. Miami, Fla.
  4. Fort Myers, Fla.
  5. Washington, D.C.
  6. Palm Beach, Fla.
  7. Baltimore, Md.
  8. Phoenix
  9. Houston, Texas
  10. Naples, Fla.

Las Vegas had the fourth-cheapest four-star hotels in the nation, behind Houston, Orlando and Palm Springs. In looking at affordability, WalletHub looked at four-star hotel prices along with rental car prices, sales tax and the prevalence of affordable 4.5+ star restaurants. What was considered “affordable” wasn’t specified.
