Beatty area to host Poker Run in May

As part of the state’s sesquicentennial celebration, the Strozzi VFW Post 12108 in Beatty is hosting the Bullfrog Historical Mining District Poker Run from May 2 to 4.

The 41-mile course, designed for 4X4s and utility-terrain vehicles, will go through the backcountry surrounding Beatty and Rhyolite.

The event kicks off with a Poker Run reception from 4 to 7 p.m. May 2 at the VFW Post, 300 Main St., in Beatty. A pancake breakfast will be offered from 7 to 9 a.m. May 3 before the run. A barbecue dinner and awards ceremony will start at 5 p.m. May 3. The event will wrap up with another pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. May 4.

Participants must be 18 years old or older. The $25 entry fee includes one poker hand plus access to the barbecue dinner. Prizes will be awarded for first through third place and for the worst hand. There will also be a drawing.
