Documentary to air on human trafficking

On Jan. 22, between 7:30 and 8 p.m., at least a half dozen local television stations will air a short documentary that features children and young adults who’ve been the victims of human trafficking. It’s all part of a campaign blitz by the Nevada Attorney General’s office in the wake of Nevada’s new sex trafficking law, which took effect last summer.
So far at least one man has been charged under Assembly Bill 67, which attempts to put pimps away for life in cases where the victims are under the age of 18. At the very least, they are supposed to serve a mandatory minimum of five years.
Prior to the new law, pimps, now referred to as sex traffickers, were merely charged with pandering a child and often received light sentences or probation.
